During the demo days the visitors had the opportunity to see the first milling of the moulds, followed by CNC application of the paste and finally the CNC milling of the cured paste surface shells.
Dekumed, the partner involved for mixing and dosing the paste has successfully provided all the know-how connected to the paste application, while Sum3D has perfectly managed and all the aspects related to the CAM software.
The tests has been carried out with a special paste, extremely fit for CNC milling large moulds, and forwarding great advantages in terms of surface finish quality, less tool blade abrasion, chemical and heat resistance. This paste has been chosen to provide a practical example, even though the process is very much similar with different pastes, such as epoxies as well as PU ones. These type of pastes are widely used in different sectors as maritime and shipbuilding, automotive, aerospace and wind energy.
Especially in the marine applications, some pastes provide some relevant advantages against the traditional materials as wood or MDF. Considering the changing environment conditions, the wood can easily expand or retract in function of the humidity factor. These effects are greater as the dimensions get bigger. Some pastes are much less affected by these factors, providing a greater dimensional stability and surface resistance. These pastes are more and more used for the production of plugs, models and moulds for the most advanced processes as RIM, VARIM, or lamination with pre-pregs, just to make a few examples.
If you are interested to receive further info concerning this special process, please contact davide.chiarottin@multiax.com ","extr.jpg");
